    Local people have various names for this Fountain: Large Fountain, Fountain of the Obelisk, Fountain of the Romans. (Picture right circa 1910) . Water has certainly been running in this place since ancient times. Many documents can be found in the local archives regarding its maintenance.
    The old church was named after it : Church of the Fountain. In 1856, pipe renewal works led to the discovery of gallo-roman structures and coins. The sun dial, of a very unsual shape, was designed by Charles Joseph de Montluisant, public works engineer and mayor of Marsanne in 1848-50 and 1852-59.
